The spirit of love.

When I was younger (much younger) I had so many daydreams of how love was supposed to be. I watched fairy tales like Cinderella and fantasized that I would one day find my prince and he would rescue me from the life I lived and we would live happily ever after. As I got a little older I watched every Elvis movie I could and daydreamed I was his girlfriend. I had heard that whatever you were thinking about as you were going to sleep is what you would dream about. I would try with all my might to think about him and fall asleep. It never worked, by the way.

I have long since grown up and found that genuine love is not a fantasy and you can’t daydream it in to existence. God is love. God created love. God created us to love him first and if we do we can love others with his love. Love is an action.

I'll admit that I've been envious of people with a beautiful Godly marriage. I know that what you see in movies, in books, on Facebook and even in church sometimes is not always as it appears. However, seeing two people genuinely love each other in both word and deed is an incredible picture of the love God has for us and wants for us.

"But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!"

Galatians 5:22-23

Real love is bathed in God’s presence, and lived through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you have lived long enough, you have probably experienced a twisted form of love that was nothing like what God intended.  It makes us doubt love is real and that we are loved. The Holy Spirit produces, in us, GENUINE LOVE, and when we lean into the fruit He is producing we can project the picture of Jesus' love for us.

The truest, most genuine, love I've ever known is Jesus' unstoppable love. What started at creation, and was victorious at the cross, continues every day in the hearts of those who follow him. My love fades, gives up, turns cold but His love never fails.

Think about: Do you love like that? My heart’s desire is to be of those who are always hopeful, always faithful, always kind, and by all means, love all people with the love of Christ.

Prayer: Lord Jesus help me to love with your love, your heart, and your truth every day. Help me to be faithful and kind.  Lord let me love in spirit and truth; remembering that my love will be the outpouring of your Spirit inside of me.
