How often do we read stories of big prayers in the bible and view those people like David, Moses, and even Jesus as somehow different, more special, or more favored by God than we are? We often discount our worthiness to pray for the unimaginable. We might think: "THAT kind of faith is only for those who are anointed."
YOU are a child of God! Therefore, you are worthy. You are anointed. You are different, special and favored. In Romans, Paul told us that since God did not spare his son (but gave him up for us all), that he would also, with Christ, graciously give us all things. Jesus, in the book of Matthew, also gives us the assurance that even if we who are evil will give good gifts to our children, then how much more will our father in heaven give good things to those who ask him. As his child, we should have faith to be able to pray boldly and know that those prayers will be answered.
Christ was THE example for praying big prayers. Jesus would go off alone and spend all night in prayer in order to have that deep relationship with the Father. Therefore, his faith was strong. Jesus had the kind of faith that literally raised people from the dead. This kind of faith only comes through having intimacy with the Father. “I am not Jesus”, you say? That’s ok. If you believe in Christ Jesus you have the same power that Jesus does.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name I will do it."
Think about: Do I spend that intimate time with the Father? How can I prioritize my world to have that kind of intimacy in order to grow in faith? Then, I can pray boldly knowing that my prayers will be answered.
Pray: Father, please help me see ways to remove anything unnecessary so that I can spend more time with you. Lord, I want to know you more. I want to know you the way your son Jesus knew you. I want you to use me to accomplish your will through big prayers. Please Father, let your spirit rise up in me a power that only you can give.
