Gardening

Testimony can be an intimidating word.  Some people experience a Damascus Road experience like Paul and there is a defined moment in time that God has used to give them a powerful story.   I think for most of us, our testimonies have bloomed over time.  The moment that we accept Christ is the beginning of the seed sprouting that has been planted in fertile soil, by a master gardener.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the hearts of man; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

Ecclesiastes 3:11

Much like each season of the year brings its own unique characteristics and beauty; each season that we walk through in our lives will give us experiences that add to our story.  I like to pretend that I have a green thumb.  Through the winter I cozy up in front of a fire, but I get so excited when the daffodils peak out with their happy yellow waves announcing its spring.  It’s then time to go to the nursery and get the bright beautiful flowers to plant.  I hardly give it much thought of all the gardeners’ work that went into the growing the flowers that are in beautiful bloom when I arrive to pick them up.  The reality is that I enjoy the finished product, but not all the work that was being done in the dark, cold months.

Many times in our life there are seasons that are hard and you don’t see any blooms.  Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 is such an encouragement to me.  It’s not very uplifting, but yet it acknowledges the seasons.  We will have seasons that will add to our testimony... good and bad... a time to plant and a time to uproot... a time to tear down and a time to build... a time to weep and a time to laugh... a time to tear and a time to mend... a time to be silent and a time to speak…  We can trust the master gardener.  He has planned for all seasons and He is prepared to give us exactly what we need to weather the elements.   We cannot control the seasons that we will experience, but we can look for what God is doing in the moments to come.  Trust His timing as He writes your story and look for His beauty in each season.  In the hard seasons, let Him protect you and rest on Him, but always be ready for spring and be ready to stand up and wave like the beautiful daffodil proclaiming God’s glory!

Think About: The definition of testimony is “evidence or proof provided by the existence or appearance of something.”  When others look at your life, do they see evidence or proof of your trust in God? Are you looking for God in the season that you are currently experiencing? If so, have you shared what God is doing?  If not, write down three things that you are thankful for today and share those three things with someone.

Pray: Dear Lord, thank you so much that I can trust you through each season.  Thank you that you are prepared to make all things beautiful in your perfect time.  Lord protect my heart and help me to always be ready to sing of your faithfulness and to share my story, even when it is hard.  Thank you that you have written my story of redemption.  In Jesus name, Amen.
