Touch the bus

A friend once shared a story about a trip to Africa.  On the way to the village, the bus broke down and everyone had to get off.  The local pastor told them they were going to lay hands on the bus, but he asked the American’s to not participate due to their lack of faith. The bus started after they prayed!  Years later, I had a baby girl that had heart defects. For two and a half years, we meet with the cardiologist regularly to assess the defects and the potential need for surgery.  We prayed faithfully for those years for healing.  One day, I was laying hands on her sweet chest while she was sleeping and praying for healing.  I clearly felt in my spirit God say “Touch the bus! You have been faithful, now walk away truly believing I have healed her.” Two days later, we were released from the cardiologist.  The defects could not be found in the test.

“For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Matthew 17:20

Have you ever seen a mustard seed?  They are so tiny, yet in this scripture Jesus tells the disciples that it only takes a small amount of faith for anything to be impossible.  Often time, we go through the motions of prayer but we lack a faithful and believing heart.  Somewhere, deep down, we doubt…does God hear my prayer?  Do I even believe that he can or will answer me?  Does he care about my request?  We all carry hurts, disappointments and experiences that Satan can use to cause doubt in our hearts. Be encouraged, God is always faithful and he does hear you.  He is waiting to hear from you and He wants you to trust him enough to pour out your heart and leave the conversation feeling refreshed.

Think about: What is hindering your faith and do you trust God with your prayers? What is something that you need to faithfully commit to praying with an expectant heart? Is God asking you to “touch the bus?” Is there something that God has made clear to you, but you have lacked the faith to walk away believing it?

Pray: Lord, I ask that you grow my faith.  Help me to trust your ways and rely on your faithfulness.  Give me an undivided heart and confidence that you hear my prayers.   Tune my heart to hear you when you speak and give me the confidence to walk in obedience to your answer.
