If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
1 John 1:8-9
Have you ever tried to quickly open a 2-liter bottle of soda that has been shaken vigorously? If you have, you know that it will most likely spew a gigantic wet and sticky mess on you and everyone standing in close proximity to you. In just a few seconds your skin, hair, and clothing will be soaked in a sticky liquid, and anyone who happened to be standing in close proximity to you will also experience the effects of your soda disaster. The closer they are, the more likely they will be soaked. What a huge mess!
Did you know that sin is very much like that? Our sin is not just about us. It touches everyone around us, especially those people to whom we are closest, and it creates a huge mess. But our heavenly Father does not leave us like this. He can instantly clean up our huge sin mess and make us as good as new.
But when God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and a new life through the Holy Spirit.
We have a God who saves us because He is merciful, kind and loving. He wants to wash away our messes, make us new, and give us life.
Think About: Do you have any sin messes that you need to confess to God and let him clean up? Are there any people close to you whom have been affected by your mess? Could your relationship with others be restored/improved if you were to acknowledge your mess and ask forgiveness?
Pray: Thank you Father God for your great love and mercy. Wash me clean and make me new. Empower me to bring your forgiveness and restoration to everyone around me. Thank you for cleaning up my messes.
